The Importance of Packaging in Skincare Product Development

At 1611 LABS, we’re doing things differently. Most skincare brands rarely talk about packaging, but for us, education and transparency aren’t optional. They’re woven into everything we do. That’s why we’re bringing you behind the scenes of one of the most overlooked (but vital) parts of skincare: how your products are housed, protected, and preserved. Because when you understand the “why” behind the packaging, you understand just how seriously we take skincare.

When it comes to developing high-performance skincare, packaging is not just an aesthetic or branding choice, it is a critical component of the product itself. Packaging plays a direct role in protecting the formula, maintaining the potency of active ingredients, ensuring hygiene, enabling controlled dispensing, and extending shelf life. In many ways, packaging is the final piece of the formulation puzzle, the vessel that ensures your product remains effective from the lab to the last drop on your skin.
Airless Pump Technology: Preserving Potency with Precision
Airless pumps are a gold standard for packaging high-performance, sensitive skincare formulations especially those with high concentrations of actives, or ingredients prone to degradation from light, air, or bacteria.
At 1611 LABS, our airless treatment pump was carefully selected to support the function and integrity of our most delicate and potent formulations.
Here’s why it matters:
Protection from Oxidation & Contamination
One of the key benefits of airless packaging is that the formula is never exposed to air or external contaminants until the moment it is dispensed. This drastically reduces the risk of oxidation, a common issue with unstable actives like Vitamin C, peptides, ceramides, or retinoids. By maintaining an oxygen-free environment, the formula remains fresh, potent, and stable from first pump to last.
Precision Dosing
Our pumps are engineered to dispense a consistent, exact dose of 0.23ml per pump, allowing for better control over application, reducing product waste, and ensuring optimal use. With 130 pumps per bottle, each product is designed to last 2–3 months, based on a recommended dose of 1 pump per use. This supports user compliance, accurate treatment dosing, and an effective skincare journey.
No Waste, Maximum Efficiency
Unlike traditional pump systems, airless pumps use vacuum technology to push the formula upward as it is used, meaning no product is left behind. Every drop is dispensed, reducing waste and improving value for the customer.
Miron Glass Bottles: Light Protection for Longevity
For formulas that require extra protection against light degradation, we use miron violet glass, a cutting-edge packaging material backed by both ancient wisdom and modern science.
Miron glass is bio-photonic glass that filters light in a way that protects and energises the contents inside. Unlike clear or amber bottles, which let in visible light that can degrade sensitive ingredients, miron glass selectively blocks the full visible spectrum except for violet, infrared, and UV-A light.
Here’s why that matters:
Light Shielding for Sensitive Actives
Many botanical extracts, antioxidants, and biotechnological actives degrade rapidly when exposed to light. Miron glass acts like a shield, preventing photodegradation and ensuring the formula retains its potency over time.
Natural Preservation
Studies have shown that ingredients stored in miron glass remain stable and biologically active for longer periods compared to conventional glass or plastic. This makes it an ideal vessel for natural, minimal-preservative formulations.
Sustainable and Reusable
Miron glass is not only high-performance but also recyclable, reusable, and luxurious. It communicates value, care, and scientific credibility while reducing the environmental impact compared to traditional plastics.
Packaging isn’t just what holds the product, it’s what preserves, protects, and perfects it.
At 1611 LABS, we design every aspect of the product experience with intention, and that includes choosing packaging that supports the science behind our formulas.
Whether it’s an airless pump that ensures every dose is stable, hygienic, and waste-free, or miron glass that guards against light and oxidation, our packaging is chosen with the same level of precision and performance as the formulas themselves.
Because when you’re creating high-performance skincare, every detail matters, right down to the bottle.
