Oil & water are as equally important when it comes to skin health and maintaining a healthy skin barrier. Striking the balance is key to help fight intrinsic & extrinsic factors that contribute to skin ageing.
WHAT DOES WATER DO FOR THE SKIN?
Water is important to keep the skin hydrated. Lack of water within the skin causes dehydration. Dehydration can lead to inflammation, which causes all major skin concerns such as fine lines & wrinkles, pigmentation and loss of elasticity.
Water/hydration helps promote cellular turnover by hydrating the deeper layers of the skin and regulating skin’s pH.
WHY INCORPORATING OILS INTO YOUR ROUTINE IS IMPORTANT.
Our skin is naturally lipophilic (oil loving) and the top layer consists of natural lipids that help form our protective skin barrier. Using face oils help maintain a healthy skin barrier and prevent TEWL (trans-epidermal water loss); a key cause of premature skin aging. Lack of oil within the skin can cause skin dryness.
Oils help balance sebum production, reduce the appearance of fine lines & wrinkles, even out skin tone, provide moisturisation and help strengthen the skin barrier.
Oils are great all year round for the face and body. During the colder months, they’re great to help provide moisturisation and promote firmer and smoother skin by locking in hydration due to their occlusive properties.
In summer months, we recommend reaching for lighter oils that contain camellia seed oil and squalane, superb emollients to help support the natural skin barrier and prevent excessive water loss.
Oils can be used in the mornings and evenings. We recommend using it as the final step in routines to help seal in hydration and lock in moisture.
